IPA strategic planning process: 1st results are in Last fall the IPA Board of Directors formed a Strategic Task Force to examine IPA’s current structure and determine if it meets the emerging needs of the Association’s current and future membership. (Read initial Task Force results) To continue the Task Force’s work and map a plan to refine and execute the recommendations, the IPA Board has created three long-term strategic planning groups:

  • Leadership, which will design the appropriate governance, staff and volunteerism necessary to achieve the revised mission;
  • Marketing, which will craft new messaging and membership categories that will drive increased revenue and membership growth;
  • Resources, which will oversee the development of products, services, events and programs that express our new mission and vision.

As we move toward adoption of these recommendations and the creation of a newly defined association, your input is critical. Please email your thoughts to Steve Bonoff.

2009 IPA Technical Conference Details Now Online Surviving—and thriving—during these turbulent economic times requires taking advantage of new business opportunities, becoming more efficient in our operations, and managing more effectively. This is not accomplished by hiding our heads in the proverbial sand until the economy improves. Instead, we need to take steps to assure the quality and efficiency of our production workflow. And this is exactly what the 2009 IPA Technical Conference—June 8-10 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois, is designed to accomplish. View Program

Proofing and JDF RoundUPs are back!
The Proofing RoundUp will feature a comprehensive set of tests conducted by Ryerson University that will examine hard and soft proofing test procedures, application data sheet clarity, matching SWOP/GRACoL, gray balance, step-wedge, optical brighteners, multicolor proofing N-color profiles, spot colors, monitor proofing, “normal” marketplace results, and full gamut and optimized proofs. More

The JDF RoundUP will include an examination of MIS to Prepress, ICS and MIS to Conventional Press ICS, and the LayCrimp test. Tests will help identify strengths and opportunities for improvement and implementation of various JDF enabled solutions. More

2009 Business Development Conference a hit! In spite of the down economy, the recent IPA Business Development Conference saw an increase in attendance over the 2008 conference with attendees taking advantage of a customer-focused program to enhance their business development opportunities. Clients were on hand to share their needs and “empowerment of the client” was a clear theme throughout the conference. The conference examined new business opportunities available—for both the service provider and clients—through new and emerging technologies as well as multi-channel communications. Watch for complete conference coverage in the March/April issue of the IPA Bulletin.
