IDEAlliance Expands System Certification Program to IncludeWide/Grand Format Inkjet Systems

[Alexandria, Virginia – July 14, 2014] IDEAlliance, the leading certifier of systems, skills, materials, and facilities in media production, has announced the addition of wide/grand format inkjet printing systems to its programs of system validation and certification.

The IDEAlliance Wide/Grand Format Inkjet System Certification Program certifies original equipment manufacturers’ roll-fed and flatbed large format printing systems to established tolerances for quality and efficiency. Systems are evaluated for printing, production, and application qualities for a specific ink and media combination. Results of the program informs prospective and current users of large format technologies on which systems meets their production and market needs, as well as how to achieve consistent quality from their printing systems.

Submissions are tested for:

  • Color Accuracy
  • Color Gamut
  • Uniformity
  • Repeatability
  • Registration
  • Lightfastness
  • Printing speed
  • Ink consumption

“Our members benefit greatly from this type of independent system validation,” says David Steinhardt, President and CEO of IDEAlliance. “IDEAlliance certification programs, which evaluate digital presses, proofing and print production systems and materials, offer considerable intelligence to the industry in the understanding and application of digital technologies in print production.”

About Wide/Grand Format Inkjet System Certification

Large format inkjet printing systems are used in a variety of applications including point-of-purchase, display, vehicle wrap, and much more. This validation program consists of testing and certification in print quality, production efficiency, and application quality. In the certificate process, suppliers print test forms according to specified criteria. The printed forms are sent to Cal Poly University, where they are measured and compared against tolerances predetermined by ISO standards and those established the IDEAlliance Print Properties & Colorimetric Committee. The choice of color gamut is strongly related to the combination of ink and media and viewing distance, so for this certification program, there is no predefined target color gamut. Program details, press form downloads, and system submission instructions may be accessed at http://www.idealliance.org/certifications/inkjet or for more details, contact Steve Bonoff at 952-896-1908 or email sbonoff@idealliance.org.
