Don’t Hunker Down & Wait Out the Storm
Did you know harp seals hunker down during a blizzard and stay hunkered down until the storm is over? In his article in the March/April issue of the IPA Bulletin, Peter Schaefer, New Direction Partners, wrote, “Although a natural reaction may be to hunker down, I would argue that this is actually the time to be aggressive...We need to be proactive in the steps we take to enhance profitability and, yes, even survive until the economy improves. When the days become brighter, you will be glad you took these steps, and your company will be positioned to reap the benefits of a strong harvest.” Be proactive and aggressive--register for the 2009 IPA Technical Conference to gain critical knowledge and skills to give your company—and your clients—a significant competitive edge. Stimulus Extends Expensing and Bonus Depreciation Through 2009
IRC Section 179 Expensing and 50% Bonus Depreciation have both been extended through December 31, 2009 in the “Stimulus” legislation, American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009. Both provisions were previously included in the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. The Stimulus also extends provisions that allow companies that are currently in a loss position to use unused Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and R&D tax credits in lieu of Bonus Depreciation. Customer Needs Vs. Customer Wants
Dick Gorelick in his recent Client Newsletter notes that there’s a running dialogue among marketing experts about the differences between customer needs and customer wants. There is general agreement that a buyer may not always know what he needs but usually knows what he wants, and that the salesperson who understands what a buyer needs is in a position to engage in so-called “solution selling.” However, there’s another issue to be considered in gathering information for the selling process. It involves an understanding of customers’ customers and their needs. It’s the only way to create demand.
